Peer Mentoring

While teachers and staff play an important role in creating a positive school environment, older students can also make a contribution as a Peer Mentor.

Peer Mentoring at Maida Vale School matches younger students with a member of the Sixth Form. These partnerships can come from a shared interest, background or experience. The mentor provides support on a one-on-one basis, offering advice and guidance on all sorts of things from school work to social life and sometimes well being. These relationships are beneficial to both parties helping to build resilience and coping skills.

In a senior school with a range of ages from 11 to 18, it is important to encourage integration and mixing between the individual year groups to avoid hierarchies and promote a sense of community. Our Peer Mentoring programme plays an important role in breaking down potential year group cliques by creating connections between younger and older members of the student body.
