Model UN Conference October 2024

Members of the Model United Nations club joined  a weekend conference organised by Wetherby Senior School. It lasted from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening. Our team included students from Year 11 through to the Upper Sixth and were joined by schools from across London.

Model United Nations (MUN) is an educational simulation of the United Nations that allows students to explore diplomacy, international relations, and global problem-solving. Participants act as representatives of countries, organisations, or individuals, collaborating to address complex issues with peers from around the world.

MUN uses skills such as research, public speaking, debate, writing, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. While often an extracurricular activity, some schools offer it as part of their curriculum. It aims to foster a deeper understanding of global issues and international politics.

Before conferences, our ‘delegates’ conduct thorough research to draft position papers and policy proposals. During the event, they debate these proposals in committees, aiming to draft and pass resolutions through majority votes. Outstanding delegates and delegations are often recognised with awards for their performance as our students were at this recent event hosted by Wetherby School.

This hands-on learning experience helps students develop confidence and critical skills while engaging with real-world challenges

Highlights of the day include

  • Michal H – Best Overall Delegate
  • Dylan N – Best Delegate UNAP
  • Zac – Honourable Mention for UK Parliament

I was delighted with the performance of our delegates and the way that they worked so well as a team.
